The Kiso valley is part a part of the Nakasendo that goes from Kyoto to Tokyo. It is an old route that travelers and merchants used a few hundred years ago. This also led to several post towns being created along the way. Nowadays you can still find these post towns. Some of these towns have developed into normal towns, but there are also several that are being preserved in their old state. Meaning that if you want a real taste of old Japan with its old buildings, the Kiso valley is definitely a place you will want to visit. Next to having these old post towns you also have amazingly beautiful nature and hiking trails to not only have a nice tourist trip, but also a small adventure through nature, which is highly recommended by both national and international tourists!
